Douthirt, new Mayor Maggi Black, and District 3 Commissioner Elect Nancy Oakley campaigned together on the platform of keeping Madeira Beach small. All three knocked out incumbents by appealing to voters worried about the beach scene's changing skyline.

“I saw Madeira Beach, I fell in love with it, the small town atmosphere. That's why I bought here and live here; because of that. And I want to keep it that way,” he said.

Candy Kitchen Madeira Beach

Such a cute and fun place to visit especially with the kiddos. First of all the place itself is super tiny, like I'm not kidding! We walked over from the beach hotel we were staying at nearby but there is also ample parking if you drive over. We each order a single serving of their fresh made ice cream and it was gigantic!! I got the butter pecan and pistachio which were both delicious. I purchased two pieces of homemade fudge which were wonderful. The boys had fun picking out old fashioned candy but the selection was so varied it was a bit overwhelming. I'm talking pop rocks to edible crickets, yes you heard me right crickets!! I purchased a few of their assorted vintage candy grab bags for less than $3 they each contained 6 different candies for me to gift to friends, super fun! Definitely will return!

The Candy Kitchen is one of those nostalgic places that you wish you had gone to sooner and the one that you'll dearly miss when you leave. It is a little cramped inside but is packed with all the old school candies like jumbo jawbreakers and giant suckers. They have almost everything to make sure you keep the dentists in business. We went there for satisfy our craving for some good ice cream and boy were we glad we went here. The first thing that you need to know about the Candy Kitchen is that they give generous portions. I think a “junior” is enough for 1 person and the “single” is enough for 2 to share. We got a single which came with 3 scoops of ice cream of our choice. We got the Marti's Mix, Chocolate Brownie, and Butterscotch Oreo. The ice cream was rich and creamy and fully of flavor. The best thing was that the price was under four dollars. My advice is to stay away from all those touristy ice cream shops of John's Pass Boardwalk and instead check out this gem that you'll cherish forever.

Welcome to Candy Kitchen Since 1937, Candy Kitchen has been making salt water taffy, creamy fudge and delicious hand-dipped chocolates the old-fashioned way.  We are a family owned and operated business that prides itself on using only the freshest, quality ingredients and time honored recipes.

Sweet dreams are made of these! This place is so much more than eye candy for those who have a sweet spot for sweets. There is so much to see and so much to enjoy it is tough to know where to start. The fact that they make their own ice cream, fudge and Italian ice makes any and all of those options especially inviting. And the array of candy is crazy. Lots of flashbacks to my childhood favorites and just plain fun to see the Pez dispensers on display. It is a tiny place that does not fit a lot of people so it can be a little tricky to review the flavors of ice cream being scooped up, check out the menu board listing shakes, malts, floats, sundaes, banana splits and specialties and just generally take in the walls stacked and packed with sugary snacks. What caught my eye was the small sign highlighting apple slices served with chocolate or caramel. The green apples were already gone but I happily substituted red and went with the caramel sauce sans nuts or other toppings. Large slices of crisp, fresh apples swimming in caramel. It was divine. What made this visit even sweeter was the helpful staff and their upbeat attitude. They were every bit as sweet as the treats.
